Stand Tall or Be Silenced

I’ve never allowed myself to be silenced. No matter how difficult or negative the situation became, I always fought for myself or others.

Suddenly, I am bound, I can’t see, or move. I am truly ‘stuck’…

My captor… is the economy. For the first time in my life, I will compromise my beliefs, morals, and skills.

Why?
It’s simple, the mere necessities in life….

What my parents didn’t tell me:

My parents never told me that people in authoritative positions would abuse their authority.…. I truly believed that those who held a position of authority would have higher standards of conduct. However, it seems to purely be a misconception.  Recently I had the opportunity to meet a few individuals who have a large effect on our communities, daily. I have also witnessed them behaving as if they belonged in a barn or behind bars.

The choices these people make have a far greater effect than the choices made by any ordinary individual with no authority. For example, if a police officer is trusted to uphold the law, and begins to abuse his authority by breaking laws, should he/she be punished more severely than an civilian with no authority…? While our officers are patrolling our streets to keep us from speeding and injuring each other, they are speeding themselves!  They write $300 tickets to keep us off our cell phones and focused and they drive around on their phone’s constantly!

Then there are those who claim to help heal our souls and counsel us through crisis… all the while, they are creating crisis in their own lives daily. Do we really know what our counselor’s and psychiatrist do in their personal lives? Would you seek marital advice from a counselor who has been married 5 times?

OR, what about those who claim to protect the very young, or the very old, the challenged, etc. Instead of protecting, they create more havoc and nearly cause mass hysteria…

But who would we go to if we encountered someone abusing their authority? Their supervisor’s, or would we simply file a complaint? It is my belief that in our current economic status, most supervisor’s might close their eyes in an attempt to avoid adding to the economic crisis.

I suppose each of us would handle these situations in a way that fits our lives and with close regard to circumstances. I choose to be very selective in choosing those of authority and never push aside an initial impression of an individual…..

Hope everyone has a great week!

A Pencil

When I was in the 1st grade, I had a friend who sat next to me in class, she had the best school supplies! Her pencils sparkled, erasers were shaped as unicorns and it seemed as if her penmanship was extraordinarily neat. I truly believed that her beautiful school supplies increased her intelligence. I wanted to be smart too!

One day, after school, I noticed that one of her sparkling pencils had fallen to the ground. I picked it up and put it in my back pack. Once I got home, I pulled out the sparkling pencil, I couldn’t wait to use it! Suddenly, I realized that the pencil wasn’t sparkling and it appeared to be a normal no. 2 yellow pencil…. But further examination proved otherwise.

One side of the pencil appeared normal and the other side sparkled. I realized that

the pencil wasn’t sparkly, but simply wrapped in some type of glittered paper.

I was a little devastated, but after some consideration….I realized, that the owner of this pencil, was really just a smart girl and her school supplies made no difference in her intelligence.

Today, at 33,  I see many others falling for this same illusion. A large home in a nice neighborhood paired with an expensive luxury vehicle doesn’t mean you are a superior human being nor does it mean you are above the rest of us in this world. What you wrap yourself in, whether it is expensive clothing, homes, cars, doesn’t change the person you are inside.

Of course none of those things mean you are not a good person. Plenty of good people in this world have many possessions of great value.

I have had the unpleasant experience of meeting people in this world who love to constantly talk about their possessions and where they live and how important it all makes them. The experience with these people was equivalent to :viewing smelly rotten moldy food, it makes you want to turn your head, cover your nose and pray that you don’t vomit.

My ramblings have concluded lol and hopefully, if I ever become an individual who finds themselves with many valuable possessions, I will be able to remember, that the pencil is still a pencil…………..

NO! We’ll do it NOW!

I swear… if I hear the phrase, “No, We’ll do it now” one more time, I believe my head will explode.  Unfortunately I deal with people everyday, LOTS of people, not just a few. Most of the people I encounter daily have taken Burger King’s slogan, “have it your way” literally!

In a sense, my job is customer service related… sort of. Though, just because I have to assist my customers doesn’t mean I have to tolerate stupidity.?!

First thing this morning… it started. This particular individual missed their appointment with me. It happens… we are all human. However………….when the individual finally did arrive, they insisted that I drop everything and help them. I said, ” Let’s reschedule, what time is good for you?”

They said, “No, we’ll do it now”
I said, ” I have another scheduled appointment waiting, I’m sorry you will have to reschedule.”
The individual proceeded to throw a fit and eventually leave my office…….

By the afternoon things were hectic as usual and I had to leave the office for a short time. As I am walking, I run into an individual who has an appointment later in the day. She approaches me and asks, “Can we just do my appointment now?”
I politely tell her, “No, I will be back in the office at the time of your appointment, I will see you then.”
She then yells, ” NO we do NOW”.

LMAO

As if  yelling at me is going to force me to do what she wants…. LMAO. I continued on my tasks outside of the office.
When I arrived back at the office, about (10 mins. later) she had stuffed her paperwork in the door. lol

People are so impatient…
I guess…. if you want things your way.. your just going to have to visit Burger King.. Apparently, they promise that you get what you want, when you want it…  :0)

Tuesday…

My Tuesday began with a BANG!

Literally.

I woke up at 4 a.m. from a deep sleep after falling off my bed! I have no idea how it happened?! I was sleeping peacefully and suddenly I’m making out with the floor… Of course once I realized what had happened I began laughing hysterically…

On the way to work… I get stuck at the longest red light known to man. So, for entertainment, I observe others around me.. and what do I see? I young blonde driving at high speed in the opposite direction of me putting her make-up on. Obviously she wasn’t paying attention when she pulled into the gas station across the street and rammed someone’s open door… WOW. She then jumped out of the car and began crying.. while I would have loved to stay and watch, my light FINALLY turned green!

Off to work… on the free way… and BANG.. the person next to me rear ends the car in front of them…..again.. I couldn’t stay and watch..

Finally at work. The day progresses smoothly, but suddenly after lunch, an angry “customer” has an issue with our services and begins to throw a temper tantrum very similar to my 1 1/2 yr old. Though he usually gets distracted pretty quickly. It’s always fun to watch a grown woman rant and rave for no good reason. Though today.. I almost couldn’t tolerate it.. I wonder how so many people get away with behaving this way.. If I went into a place of business and threw a fit, I am almost positive I would :

A. Be thrown out by security

B. Be arrested.

C. Possibly get injured lol

Thankfully.. it is TUESDAY, which means tomorrow is Wednesday, leaving only 2 days left for the week! Happy Tuesday!

Kate’s Boobs

So after a really awful day yesterday… I went to bed and of course didn’t sleep well. I woke up with a 1 yr old on my head shredding an Elmo book… My head was pounding, eyes blurry, but I managed to wrestle the remaining pieces of the book from my 1  yr old grab some coffee and check my daily emails. However…. when I opened up my news feed the first thing I noticed in bold letters of course.. is that Kate Gosselin got bigger boobs!

Seriously… how is this news? I am in no way saying anything bad about her, I think she is an amazing human being.. with super powers! She has 8 KIDS! As a single mom it is difficult to juggle the daily activities of the 2 I have. I can’t even imagine 8.

My point is… that we have a giant oil spill destroying our oceans, earthquake disasters in different locations of the world, and not to mention homeless, starving and the unemployed in our own country, but yet we are reporting on the size of 1 woman’s BOOBS?! lmao

If being a reality t.v. star means tons of money for meaningless random nonsense.. I should totally be one! So many random things happen daily lol I wanna make thousands because I checked the mail or drove to the store!

Nevertheless, Kate Gosselin looks great! Cool

Self-Importance…

Have you ever met someone who constantly talks about themselves, their career(s), and general life as if they were a celebrity with billions of $$. These types usually have outlandish stories that at times border on bold lies.. did you know there is an actual disorder for this!

Narcisistic personality disorder is characterized as a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy. These individuals display an exaggerated sense of self-importance, which is manifest in a pretentious, boastful overestimation of abilities. Narcisistic patients try to sustain an image of perfection and personal invincibility for themselves.

Isn’t that crazy…  now, how to deal with these types… I have no idea… suggestions? lol

12 things we would tell our bosses!

UUUGGHH… I have recently joined the ranks of the unemployed.. this sucks. I need my day job, because in this economy, photo’s and websites… aren’t paying the  bills.. During my many online searches for new employment.. I came across this article.. So I thought I would share!

As employees, we are told to be diligent, to follow through, to be “self-starters,” to have a good attitude, to be flexible and patient and dependable and loyal and respectful. We’re told there is no “I” in “team.” We’re told, “You should just be grateful you have a job.” But surely bosses have obligations to us just as we do to them. And surely one of the biggest of those obligations is to seek out their employees’ point of view.

Of course, not all employees feel free to say what they’re actually thinking. You know who you are! That’s why in today’s column, the employees of the world get to speak up. What would you say to your boss if you could say absolutely anything at all? This is your chance, people.

Here are a dozen to get you warmed up:

1. “Give me the tools I need to do a good job.” If you’re unsure, ask me. But, basically, time, materials, information, maybe even a little authority–these are what I need to succeed. (This is so true of employer’s! No one wants to give the proper tools to succeed!)

2. “Admit it when you make a mistake.” It shows you’re not afraid and is the best way to earn my respect. Whatever you do, don’t act as if you never make mistakes. That’s just ridiculous.  (My last boss just couldn’t do this, instead, she would yell and blame the employee’s even calling names!)

3. “Don’t treat me like a cog on a wheel.” I’m an individual. If I screw up, tell me. If someone else in my group screws up, tell him. Don’t blame the whole team.

4. “Ask for my opinion from time to time.” I might be able to offer some good ideas if you listened to me even half as much as you expect me to listen to you.

5. “I truly need frequent feedback.” Please don’t wait till the year-end performance review. I can do a better job for you if you let me know what I’m doing wrong, and what I’m doing right, on a regular basis.

6. “Don’t leave me hanging out to dry.” When things go south I need you to be a leader and back me up. If you are not loyal to me, it is impossible for me to be loyal to you.

7. “I can’t hear you when you shout.” Maybe someone once told you intimidation is a good management tool. But seriously, yelling at employees just makes you look weak and ineffectual. (Someone should have told my last boss this!)

8. “Don’t make me work with idiots.” I realize it’s not easy but if there’s a problem person in the group it’s your job to resolve the situation. Don’t let it drag on and on. It poisons the whole workplace.

9. “Have a clear agenda.” If you don’t know what you want, how do you expect me to? I need you to understand your own goals, and communicate them to me clearly.

10. “Don’t lie about deadlines.” There is no better way to lose the trust of your people than to set “fake” deadlines. Trust me enough to be honest with me and I’ll do a good job for you.

11. “Be predictable.“ If you behave erratically I will spend more time and energy worrying about what you’re going to do next than working. (My last boss behaved so erratically it actually affected my concentration!)

12. “Mentor me.” Ask me my goals. Give me projects that help me develop and grow. I will do a fabulous job for you if you take an interest in me and my career. And that’s a win-win.

Now… I’m off to find a boss who will follow all of these suggestions LMAO…
